Our former equine specialist, Warren, has gone to greener pastures – literally. He’s on a ranch outside of Houston resting in his old age. Abbie’s search for a new horse came out of a very personal tragedy - the loss of dear friend and talented local musician, Carter Albrecht. Sparrow’s name is a tribute to Carter (he once fronted a band named Sparrow) and the positive impact he had on those around him.
Formerly a racehorse, Sparrow’s transition to a new discipline hasn’t been the easiest. Horses, like people, are unique. Each has its own personality and needs. After Warren left the stable, Sparrow found himself on the end of a row by himself. His coat lost its sheen. He seemed disinterested in the things around him. He spent much of his time standing in the back of his stall with his nose in the corner..
On a hunch, Sparrow was moved to a more active part of the barn, at which point his depression lifted and his love for carrots returned. He has flourished in his training and is eager to join with you and help you learn how to communicate your own needs. Because horses are so naturally responsive, working with Sparrow allows for direct access to feelings, behaviors and consequences. Equine therapy, like any experiential therapy, is especially powerful, because it offers the experience of change, not just the concept of change.
Call Abbie for an appointment to meet Sparrow and see what he can teach you about yourself. After his rapid recovery from depression, he’s sure to understand your pain as well.
