Joannah
Ginsburg, LCSW
Trauma Specialist, Holistic Therapist
Joannah grew up against the
foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Boulder, Colorado, in an
intellectual, natural, but urban town of progressive free
thinkers and spiritual seekers. Her calling towards being a
therapist stems from a perpetual belief that life's
inevitable difficulties can eventually be building blocks
for progressive growth and change with the right support and
guidance.
Joannah knew she wanted to
be a therapist from the age of 11 after reading Sybil, the
famed book about a woman who struggles with multiple
personalities. Joannah's family originally hails from New
York and New Jersey (now y'all better not hold her Yankee
colors against her). She returned back East to obtain her
bachelor's in Psychology at Brandeis University outside
Boston, where she focused on Neuroscience and Physiological
Psychology. She completed her Masters in Social Work at the
University of Pennsylvania.
Joannah has previously
worked in New York City, providing therapy after the World
Trade Center attack, and has worked in schools, clinics,
hospitals and private practice settings in Philadelphia, New
York, Boston, Miami and Scottsdale. While she enjoys working
with many populations, Joannah specializes in the treatment
of trauma related issues. She also works in the treatment of
eating disorders, and with young children, adolescents, and
families who are dealing with a variety of issues, including
anxiety, addiction, depression, and marital struggles.
Joannah's approach to
treating eating disorders addresses factors in the
emotional, behavioral and environmental areas. As we
increase awareness of how we utilize our relationship with
food to manage our feelings and emotions increases, we can
learn to separate our emotions from food through working
through the underlying issues and implementing healthy
change behaviors. Joannah helps individuals develop the
strength to overcome this dangerous addiction to the eating
disordered behavior through increasing insight, and
providing support and accountability. She has worked in
inpatient and outpatient setting in the treatment of eating
disorders.
Joannah believes in a
holistic and multi-dimensional approach to healing, treating
the mind and body. She is a yoga instructor, and offers Yoga
and Yoga-Psyche sessions and classes that incorporate yoga
with psychological therapy. She also offers advice on
physical activity and nutrition patterns.
After having lost her
mother, who was also her best friend, to cancer at 21, she
has seen the clouds from both sides. She believes her
experiences have made her a better therapist. Joannah enjoys
reading, writing, running and rooting for the Denver Broncos
and New York Yankees. She is engaged to her boyfriend of 8
years, who is a podiatrist and extremely good egg.
Joannah charges $100 for a
50 minute session and offers a sliding scale.
