Frequently Asked Questions
1) What should I expect in
each session?
While each LifeWorks
counselor works a bit
differently, the first two
sessions generally follow a
uniform format. In the first
session we try to gather as
much information about the
problem as possible. We want
to know what's been going
on, what you hope to get out
of counseling, and anything
else you can tell us about
your situation. In the
second session we will work
out a genogram, or family
map, to shortcut the process
of getting to know you as a
person. This format gives us
a good treatment map, and
will provide direction as to
how to proceed as
efficiently and effectively
as possible.
2) How long does each
session last?
Individual sessions last 50
minutes. Marriage or family
sessions are sometimes
scheduled for 90 minutes, as
needed.
3) How frequently do I need
to come in to counseling?
You and your counselor will
decide after some initial
assessments what the best
plan is for how often you
need to come in. Most
clients come in on a weekly
basis.
4) For how long will I need
to keep coming to counseling
before I'm cured?
Unfortunately if you are
coming in for a cure we
can't offer you much. In
counseling the improvements
made depend entirely on how
much work YOU are willing to
do. The counselor will help
with the facilitation of
that process. Some people
come in for a few months and
others come for a few years.
Many people maintain the
relationship and return to
counseling when they feel
that they need a refresher
course.
5) Do you offer a sliding
scale?
Yes. Both our LPCIs and
student interns are
available to see clients at
reduced fees. LPCIs fees
vary from $45 to $75.
Student interns fees vary
from $35 to $40.
6) How do I know my
counselor isn't crazier than
I am?
Good question! Frankly you
don't. If we are crazier
than you are we can probably
teach you a thing or two.
Basically you have to be
willing to take the risk.
7) What kinds of payment are
accepted?
We charge a $5 surcharge for
credit card transactions. If
you wish to avoid the
surcharge, checks and
regular old American
greenbacks are accepted.
8) Is your office stuffy and
clinical feeling?
Does our website feel that
way? We try to foster a
relaxed, warm, and inviting
environment. We would like
for you to think of our
office as a place to have a
Dr. Pepper, put your feet
up, and be who you are --
who you REALLY are, that is,
and not the person you play
in your life.
9) Will my information be
kept confidential?
Yes. All information is
double-locked inside our
office. We can only release
information on request and
with your permission.
10) What makes LifeWorks
