About Us
The LifeWorks Group was founded in the spring of 2000 by Melanie Wells, LPC,LMFT, to offer clients a fresh, innovative and collaborative approach to life's inevitable difficulties.
It was the flowery couch that did it. After years of practicing alone in a group (this is what almost everybody does - a group is not a group) or as a solo practitioner (including an unfortunate shared-space stint with the flowery blue couch), numbed by the monotony and ineffectiveness of practicing without collaborative input, Melanie decided to re-think her entire approach to therapy. She rented some space, recruited some folks who value creativity, collaboration and client comfort, and we were off and running! Since then, thousands of families have walked through our doors into an environment that helps them unlock stuck ways of thinking feeling and being and cultivate a new, fresh approach to life.
Our dream has always been to provide creative solutions to stuck problems - in an environment that's collaborative and comfortable. If we haven't done it, let us know and we'll fix it. Now.
Check our our LifeWorkers needs link page to meet our therapists and see who might be the best fit for you.
What We're Into
(in addition to Elvis and Dr. Pepper)
Creative solutions to stuck problems - Each LifeWorker was hired in part because of his or her capacity for creativity. We not only think outside the box, we sometimes shred it and throw a parade for a client who has as a victory.
A comfortable environment
Cool vibe, terrific music (often featuring local bands), current magazines, puppy named Gunner and all the Dr. Pepper you can drink. Need we say more?
Helping you feel welcome and at home
Help yourself to a Dr. Pepper, play with the slinky, and enjoy getting to know the LifeWorks counseling team. We'll be the ones walking around in jeans and sporting the occasional Pink Freud t-shirt.
The entire LifeWorks counseling experience is designed for you, not for us. It's our goal to help you relax and feel comfortable. We know you're here to talk about some pretty difficult stuff and we want to make that as natural and comfortable as possible.
What We're Not Into
(in addition to uncomfortable shoes and neckties)
The finger-wag
If you are looking for a finger-wag, you've come to the wrong place. At The
LifeWorks Group, we understand that everyone struggles and that the only "normal" people out there are the ones you don't know very well. You can expect your therapist to be compassionate and caring. It's our goal to help you tackle your issues with enthusiasm, creativity, common sense and a sense of humor.
Blame and shame
At The LifeWorks Group, we're interested in understanding how everyone and everything in the situation fits together, so we can help you undo the knots and make something positive out of even the most troubling life experiences. As systemic therapists, we do not find it helpful to blame anyone else for your problems. Taking responsibility for yourself and your life is your ultimate task, no matter who started the ball rolling. It's our goal at The LifeWorks Group to help you get there.
Lone Ranger therapy
At The LifeWorks Group, we live and die by our team approach. Every member of the staff will be available to your therapist to generate ideas, offer points of view, and even team up on cases (for example, one of us will sometimes see the teen while the other one tackles the family work). We believe that working in isolation is not only limiting (and also no fun), but robs you, the client, of the opportunity to receive valuable insight from someone other than the person sitting across the therapy room from you. No one person has all the answers.
